Winter Wonderland

This morning I woke up to snow! I am so excited. Really. I know some of you out there dread it. I am usually among you but this year it is reminding me that Christmas is just around the corner. That means that I can put my Christmas decorations for the first time in the house. Maybe that is what has really got me excited. I love Christmas and I can't wait to sit in our great room looking at our dinky little tree with all the ornaments on it. Art and I each year on boxing day comb the aisles at various stores for ornaments that have special meaning to us and then we carve the year into them. Last year we got a heart because my step dad went in for heart surgery and a house covered in snow because we knew we would be moving in soon. But this will be our first Christmas here. We are actually living in the house we built and sometimes I can hardly believe that we were so blessed. This year when I awaken on Christmas morning it will be here. Not in a hotel room, my parents house or a apartment but my own home and nothing is more special or magical than that!

Sometimes I wonder

Recently I started a new seasonal position with a department store to bring in some extra Christmas money. As I was working there I saw a T-shirt which reminded me of my oldest charge. It said, "My parents taught me to walk and talk and now they tell me to sit down and shut up." This is so typical of my little boy wonder who can never sit still enough to get his homework done in a reasonable amount of time or have anything come out of his mouth that isn't generally rude or obnoxious. Yes, I know this is the behaviour of most eight year old boys but it amazes me that it comes so naturally to them to fart, burp or to find bodily functions generally amusing.

Even Art who is all grown up tends to have these moments where I can't believe he does something. Art has a annoying habit of singing songs over and over just to get me riled up. There are days where I could punch him just to shut him up. Boy wonder came home from school the other day singing at the top of his lungs, "Saturday, Saturday..." and continued until I shut him up with peanut butter toast. After seeing repeated behaviour in a eight year old and sometimes a thirty one year old you gotta wonder where they get it from. Just for a moment I always think, "God, what were you thinking when you put the male brain together."

Some people are so stupid!

I don't understand some people. Maybe, I've just had a bad, stinky, horrible day but I don't get it. Last night I drove like a mad woman into town to buy tires for the Maxima after leaving work. I still have the summer tires and a spare on and I can't go on like this forever right? I had previously arranged to purchase from a couple in the south west section of Ottawa called Barrhaven. I looked at the tires in a dingy garage and got fooled in my desperation for a cheap fix! Well cheap for tires anyway. So today I dropped the car off at the mechanic to have the tires installed. What did they tell me but that two tires are completely bald and two are close to it. I couldn't believe it. Now I am stuck with tires and rims with nothing to show for it and neither can I purchase others now. It completely and totally STUNK.

To top off this day while driving home a very annoying person almost got run over. I often joke with Art about his "Road Rage" but today I really had it. For a brief minute I considered turning around to run someone over. Why? Because while driving on my road at the posted speed limit of 40km a "kind and sweet" lady decided to shine her flashlight directly at my windshield. While this may seem a minor irritant I was further enraged when she shone it in my rearview mirror to further annoy me. I couldn't believe the stupidity of the woman. So I've decided to take this like a grown woman should and leave it alone. It's a good thing that I have a wonderful imagination and can imagine all the things I really want to to be doing instead. *Evil grin*

We're just like every other married couple...

Yesterday being Sunday and our typical day of rest Art and I went outside after church to clear brush. I know, I know all you nay sayers out there think we should have been taking our nap. Really though we love being outside and we so rarely get to be outside together. So there we were bundling up the many branches which have littered the sides of our property for the last two years and we got into a regular squabble. This is not unlike us. We seem to thrive on arguing about little things of no consequence with each other. The big catalyst; He Man vs She Ra of course. Yes that's right cartoons. I argued that She Ra was better than He Man because she had more powers and was kinder to animals. Art claimed that He Man was smarter. In the middle of our fun a couple who lives down the road happened to be out walking and gave us the strangest look. We laughed at each other and continued to argue anyway. So much for impressing the neighbours. LOL! We did manage to clear out a large amount of brush and I may be able to plant my flower garden there next year! Yay for me!

31?

It's hard for me to believe that the man I met six years ago is now 31. I can't say that he looks like what I pictured a 31 year old to look like a mere ten years ago. Or for that matter acts like one. The man still watches cartoons with me (albeit the old ones we grew up with) and sings annoying songs designed to drive me crazy! But he has changed so much from that guy I happened to meet one day while chugging my coffee. He no longer sleeps in until 4pm. but a managable 11 if he has no obligations that day. Otherwise he gets up on his own with little prodding at 8a.m. Yes that's every day! He works hard! First he slugs it out with numbers and weird number geeks at Stats Can and spends the rest of his time building and fixing most of Ottawa. I could barely get him to do much more than shopping a few years ago let alone work. I'm so proud of him and the man he is! Maybe he has grown up without me realizing it. I wonder what will happen at 40?

First officer's blog...

Okay maybe we watch a little too much Star trek but it sounded good. I've talked with Art and realized that I wanted to start posting a blog to keep in touch with all you on our very interesting life. So stay tuned until the next episode...end first officer's blog.
